The Mission of Citrus Elementary School

The mission of Citrus Elementary is to foster a growth mind set among all members of our school community, and to implement literacy into all academic areas to ensure mastery, while promoting the social and emotional well being of the child.

Creative Programs

The Citrus Staff has been empowered to develop and implement new initiatives and innovative programs. Examples of such programs include:

TECHNOLOGY 

Citrus has been at the forefront of technology in the school district. Citrus was one of the first schools in the nation to experiment with an Integrated Learning Systems (ILS) in a distributed configuration. Today the school has over 280 student computers in our computer labs and our classrooms in addition to over 70 student laptops and 24 tablets. Citrus students go to the Computer Labs for 30 minutes twice a week. There are two computer labs, a Primary Computer Lab and an Intermediate Computer Lab. Currently, all teachers are connected through the WAN with the District Office and other schools. All classrooms are equipped with a SMART Board (or Smart Projector), Sound Systems and Document Cameras. They have a schoolwide wireless network.

EXTENDED DAY PROGRAM 

Citrus has an Extended Day Program that includes an early morning program from 7:00 A.M. to 8:00 A.M, in addition to the after school care. This program services approximately 100 students on a daily basis until 6:00 PM. This program has responded to children's developmental needs through the use of music and art activities, computer literacy and a learning environment that includes play.

Dress Code

Responsibility for the dress and appearance of students rests primarily with the parents. Statutorily, the school functions in loco parenti, 1003.31, F.S., and is responsible for the student while attending school. Therefore, the School Board, establishes and defines appropriate appearance and attire for the proper, orderly, and safe functioning of the school environment. Below are the dress code rules.

1. No clothing with inappropriate sayings, themes, or advertisement., just approved uniforms.
2. All clothing must cover the shoulders and have sleeves.
3. Underclothes may not be visible or seen through clothing including sheer, net, or mesh clothing. Modesty is expected.
4. Pants must be secured at the waist at all times. No underclothes visible. Pants should not present a safety hazard. (For example, pants that are too long or baggy should not be worn to school.) Leggings are not a substitute for pants.
5. Clothing should cover the shoulders and waist at all times. Clothing that exposes the midriff area while standing, sitting, or reaching is not acceptable. Clothing should cover from the neck or just below the neck with no cleavage showing.
6. All shorts, skorts, and skirts must extend beyond finger length.
7. No cargo shorts or pants.
8. Elementary students are required to wear sneakers or closed toe shoes. No boots, flip-flops, slippers, or sandals should be worn to school. For safety reasons, sneakers are the best footwear choice for elementary students. No lace-up sneakers that extend above the ankle.
9. Hats and sunglasses are not permitted during the school day IN class. They may be worn during outdoor PE activities or recess as permitted by the principal.
10. Jewelry or accessories, extended or press-on fingernails that could be determined as unsafe or injurious to self and others are not allowed. Dog-type collars, chains, and anything with spikes are not allowed.
11. Haircuts/hair styles/ hair coloring, including sprays and gels, should not be disruptive to classroom procedures or everyday activities. Mohawks are highly discouraged and all hair issues will be assessed by the Principal for disruption and compliance.
12. Jackets/sweatshirts may be worn that DO NOT HAVE HOODIES, LOGOS, EMBLEMS, OR ADVERTISEMENTS on them. They should only be worn on days that are 50 degrees or cooler.
